The questions parents and carers ask most.Quick answers to the key questions parents and carers ask before enrolment.
What ages, year groups and subjects do you support?
11+ preparation: Years 3-5. KS3 English and Maths: Years 7-9. GCSE Maths, English Language and English Literature: Years 10-11. Support is matched to each learner’s needs and starting point.
What makes The 11 Plus and Beyond Academy different?
A family-owned academy offering small-group tuition led by an experienced serving school leader, with more than 30 years in education and 20 years of private tutoring. We combine high expectations with individual support.
How do I know which programme is right for my child?
We discuss your child’s year group, attainment, confidence and goals. Where appropriate, an initial assessment identifies strengths and gaps so we can recommend the right programme.
Do you carry out an initial assessment?
Yes, where appropriate. It is not pass or fail; it identifies secure knowledge, gaps, misconceptions, confidence and independent working so teaching can start at the right level.
How large are the tuition groups?
Groups are deliberately small so every learner can participate and receive targeted support. Exact group sizes vary by programme and are confirmed before enrolment.
How is learning personalised within a small group?
The tutor adapts explanations, questions, scaffolding, practice and challenge within the shared lesson, giving each learner the support or stretch they need.
How do you monitor progress and provide feedback?
We use lesson responses, independent work, short checks and assessments where useful. Parents and carers receive feedback on progress, priorities and next steps, including any recommended intervention.
When should my child start preparing for the 11+?
Year 3 builds foundations and positive habits; Year 4 develops knowledge, vocabulary and reasoning; Year 5 focuses increasingly on selection-test skills. Earlier preparation allows steady progress without unnecessary pressure.
What does the 11+ programme cover?
English, Maths, vocabulary, comprehension, verbal reasoning and non-verbal/spatial reasoning. We teach core skills first, then use exam-style and timed practice when appropriate.
Do you offer KS3 Maths and English support?
Yes. Years 7-9 receive English and Maths support to close gaps, consolidate school learning, build confidence, provide greater challenge and strengthen GCSE foundations.
What GCSE subjects do you support?
GCSE Maths, English Language and English Literature for Years 10-11. Support can align with the examination board and include knowledge gaps, reasoning, analysis, exam technique, revision planning and Foundation/Higher Maths as appropriate.
Is homework or practice set between sessions?
Yes, when useful. Practice is purposeful, age-appropriate and balanced with school workload. It may reinforce learning, improve recall or prepare for the next session.
Do you guarantee an 11+ place or GCSE grade?
No. No responsible tutor can guarantee a grammar-school place or GCSE grade. We provide skilled teaching, honest feedback, high expectations and focused preparation to help each learner make the strongest possible progress.
How much does tuition cost?
Current fees and payment arrangements are confirmed before enrolment. They may vary by programme and current offer
